Traffic exchanges are websites that receive website submissions from webmasters that join traffic exchange networks. The person who submitted the website then has to browse other member sites on the exchange program to earn credits, which enable their sites to be viewed by other members through the surf system. This increases the number of visitors to all the sites involved.

Exchanges enforce a certain credit ratio, which illustrates the amount of websites the surfer must view in order to receive one hit through the program for their promoted website. Many sites offer the ability to upgrade one’s membership level for a more equal credit ratio.

As the viewers are all website owners or affiliates, it is possible that some might find certain member sites interesting and thus make note of them on their own sites, sending more traffic their way. Most traffic programs also impose a time limit when members are browsing, ranging from 10 seconds to 60 seconds. Some incorporate the use of captcha to ensure user interaction.

Almost all traffic exchanges are free, although many of them offer special features to paid members and offer credits for purchase. Almost all traffic exchange programs encourage users to build their own referral networks, which in turn increases the referrers’ amount of credits.

The traffic generated in a traffic exchange can be leveraged by using a downline builder to assist the user in building a referral network in the many different traffic exchanges.

Traffic exchanges are just one of the many methods of driving more traffic to your website. Here’s how it works. In most cases you sign up for free (and you can upgrade at any time should you decide to do so). Many of the traffic exhanges offer you free credits to get started. Your first step is to advertise the web site that you are trying to get traffic to. So, you will publish a short compelling text and which invites masses to click on your link and then you’ll post this.

Next, you need to get this site circulated and in order to do that, you need to start getting credits. How do you get credits? By clicking on the other posted ads in the traffic exchange program. Each time you click on an advertisement and remain there for a specified amount of time (usually around 15 seconds), you will earn credits. The more credits you earn, the more visible you will be to the other members of the site.

A traffic exchange is really similar to any simple exchange of benefits. Besides exchanging traffic through the traffic exchange programs, you can also interact with other web site owners. While browsing other sites, you will most likely come across sites that complement yours. At this point, you can contact the webmaster or owner of a website you’re interested in and can arrange to exchange links as well, which ads to your site ranking.

There is something that you do want to avoid. Do not use traffic exchanges if you have Google Adsense on the page that you are advertising on the traffic exchange. Google Adsense does not permit this. However, you can use a lead capture page in the traffic exchange which then forwards to your Google Adsense page. This is a good way to get the leads and traffic to your site.

Traffic exchange is an easy way to generate more traffic to your site. This can be considered a more pro-active way of pursuing traffic, since the amount of visits to your site depends on the number of websites you also surf through. If your internet site is new, traffic exchanges can be an highly effective method to get traffic – it is more or less foolproof. Each Traffic exchange program differs but they all offer you the chance to make sure that traffic is getting to your site.

When you know you have a great website or product to offer you want the world to know about it too. You could spend a lot of money advertising but in the long run this may cost you more money than you make. Alternatively, you could consider reciprocal links to other related websites. This could boost traffic to your website and the links will also increase your popularity with the search engines.

The advantages of reciprocal links outweigh the disadvantages for several reasons. When you link to another website it allows their traffic to click onto your website which increases your traffic.

When you use reciprocal links, their traffic can become your traffic and you do not face any advertising bills. Reciprocal links can be a great idea for those who are just starting out in their own business or website online and can’t really afford to pay out a lot on advertising until they get more traffic to their site.

The main disadvantage of reciprocal links is that you share everything, including the customers. By placing links to other websites on your site, you are encouraging them to visit these other sites. So, while you may be getting increased traffic, you may experience reduced sales as visitors navigate away to other websites.

You may also need to watch out for reciprocal link scams. You may have seen emails from people requesting to exchange links to your website. Sometimes, these are legitimate, but often they are not and the link to your website may end up on a non-searchable site with a bunch of other links.

This brings us to the point that the value of reciprocal links depends very much on the site where your link appears. If it is on a popular website with plenty traffic and a good search engine ranking, then a reciprocal link is well worth it. However, a reciprocal link is worthless if it appears on some obscure website that receives few visitors.

The benefits of reciprocal links for your website will depend very much on your own circumstances and the quality of links you can find. If you are just starting out and are receiving few visitors to your website, some good reciprocal links could help kick start your website. However, if you are already well-established there may be better advertising and marketing options available to you.

There is no doubt traffic exchanges can provide you with lots of extra free traffic, and if you use the right strategies you can turn those start page hits into high quality targeted visitors. Many people think of traffic exchanges as non qualified traffic that you have to sit in front of your computer several hours a day to get. Of course this is not true. You can buy credits and get traffic without ever lifting a finger to get it. If you do not have any money to buy credits you can join the affiliate program most of them offer and earn credits enrolling new members. Regardless of how you earn your traffic credits the key to making traffic exchanges work is the web pages you advertise.

Think about this. You may or may not be surfing to earn credits, but there are people who are looking at ads all day long and if you want to get their attention you need to do it quickly. So you need to design a web page that will capture their attention. Landing pages are the best way to capture their attention. Don’t just advertise your website or affiliate sales pages. Everyone is doing that. By creating a landing page you get to be unique and can concentrate on features and benefits to put on your page. Capture names and email addresses first. This is really a goal in all of your advertising. The more you get in tune with this type of thinking the more professional your landing page will become.

Think of your landing page as a squeeze page. By combining a landing page with a lead capture form you are utilizing traffic exchanges to the fullest. To get people to fill out the form offer a free report or something that would make them want to give you their contact information. Again try and think in terms of what the person viewing your offer is thinking. Do not run one ad and stop. Create multiple versions of each ad with different titles and descriptions. Check which ones are drawing the most attention and then create more versions of those. One of the ways to make traffic exchanges work for you is to create a lot of effective ads.
